Hola,

Hi,

Max turned 9 months and we took the corresponding photo shoots. And today, Bea got her first hair cut.

Here they go!

So this an evolving story.

We have been pretty succesful trying to reduce binky (pacifier) usage from Bea. After she had 8 binkis on duty each night at her bed, we reduced it to just one to be used only at the bed, after talking to her that it would mess up her teeth.

But now it was about time to remove it completely.

Two nights ago, and out of the blue, we decided that it was enough. We tried at first to talk to her, and though she understood that only babies used it, she still wanted it. So we went full-throttle: I put carefully the pacifier in my shirt pocket, while saying to her that I couldn’t find it. She didn’t believe us, so we came up with the idea that a spider had came by and took it away. “A spider took it” she repeated. I had to hold her while she checked over the dresser top, and then i had to hand her a flashlight while she decided to check under her bed, something she had never done before! (because it is dark!).

Convinced that the evil spider was to blame, she still wanted it back. So Xime had to write a letter to the spider, under B. supervision, asking to bring the pacifier back. She was pretty calmed , so we decided to leave. And then hell broke loose.

Max was having a rough night (now we know that he had an ear infection at the time), and he was crying a lot. So we went to see him, convinced that Bea was ok. Wrong. She started to cry like a 6 week old. I went back to calm her, and she did, but as soon as I left the room, it all started again. She even refused to kiss me good night. I thought it was going to stop, but after 10 min, it started to look as she was going to throw out. Max was still crying, so everything look hopeless, but we didn’t want to take a step back. But at the end I had to, and all the sudden, I found the binky: “Look Bea, the spider dropped the binky at the door”. She reacted immediately saying that the spider had taken the binky outside the house, but had dropped it on the way back. After that, she kiss me good night without a problem, and went to sleep. Max fell asleep a couple of minutes later.

So now we were at a crossroads. We didn’t want to step back, but obviusly it was going to be very hard. Xime remembered something tia Marisol told us, that she had continuously trimmed Sebas’s binky until he found it useless. So that’s what we did, hoping that it would work in time.

So here was the magic: As soon as we gave Bea the binky that night, she spat it out, saying “spider, yuk!”. She blamed the spider all by herself! The spider had cut the binky’s tip and now it is no good. We offered it back and she refused, not even wanting it on her bed. But not everything was going to be ok. Our worst fears shoed up when all the sudden she remembered that she had more binkies, and asked for the white one. But they had long been gone, so it wasn’t that hard to convince her that we didn’t know where they were. She also asked for a piece of paper to write a letter to the spider, but we never did.

Finally, she refused the binky and also refused to hear the music she always used at bedtime.

That was yesterday. Today, we had an extra long reading session, and the binky was not even mentioned.

Blame the spider. Thanks, spider.

Hola,
